The City of Olean’s Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration is set for Friday, July 4, at Bradner Stadium in Olean.  The fireworks are organized by the Olean Professional Firefighters Association, OPFFA.  “The 2008 Fireworks Celebration will once again have an exciting inside-the-stadium show.  Young Fireworks of Rochester, this year’s fireworks company, plan on shooting many inside displays.  Many fun family activities are also scheduled for those inside the stadium,” reports Dave Bauer, Olean Fire Department staff and co-chair of the Fireworks.

The fireworks celebration is funded through donations.  There are several ways for the community to assist.  Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the OPFFA, will be scheduling Dress Down Days throughout the Olean area.  GOACC is asking area employers to allow their staff to dress down patriotically on scheduled days and donate a dollar (or more) to the Firefighters’ Association Fireworks Fund.  The following days are designated the following days for Dress Down Days: Friday, May 23rd (Memorial Day Weekend); Friday, June 6th; and Friday, June 13th. The firefighters will also  be serving up hot dogs and other refreshments  on May 23 and June 13  at the Olean Area Federal Credit Union.

Volunteers Needed — The OPFFA is looking for some volunteers for July 4.  Volunteers are needed the day of the event to assist with taking donations at the door, with organizing the events in the stadium, and with seeking donations from those that choose to sit in War Veterans Park and on the dikes around the stadium.

Saint Bonaventure University Alumni Reunion, June 6-8, 2008

Bonaventure Alumni: You won’t want to miss Reunion 2008! Not only are we celebrating our annual reunion weekend, but the University is celebrating its 150th anniversary as well. This is one special reunion. We hope you have already begun to contact your Bona friends and classmates to encourage them to join you in June.

Class years ending in “3″ or “8″ will be the honored classes for Reunion Weekend 2008, but everyone is welcome. The reunion brochure/registration form was mailed March 28. Officials at Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have set the 40th Annual Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Clambake for Chamber members and guests for Wednesday, June 11th, at Olean’s War Veterans Park, located at 551 East State Street, Olean (across from Bradner’s Stadium).  Nancy Morgan, Member Services Coordinator states, “This festive gathering represents the traditional start of the summer season in our community and offers fun, fine food and prizes for all.  Music, games and loads of prizes are also a part of the Clambake.  We want you to dust off those cowboy boots and be a cowboy for the day at this year’s Western-Theme Clambake.”

Chamber member, the Old Library Restaurant, will be catering the event, which runs from 3:30 - 8:30 pm.  The restaurant will serve up Beef on Wyck, Clams casino, Clam chowders, sausage sandwiches, BBQ Chicken, Hot Dogs, and BBQ Ribletts.  The menu will also include clams-raw and steamed, peel n’ eat shrimp, Sturbridge stuffed clams, New Orlean’s steamed crawfish, peel and eat shrimp, Italian style meatballs, fruit, summer salads, ice cream sundae bar, chocolate fondue copper kettle, and more.  The Old Library will sponsor a Jello Contest and DJ Danny Shembeda will have a Country Music Trivia Contest.

David Carucci, Clambake Committee chair, stated, “We will also recognize a lifetime member, an individual who is fully retired, has served as a board of director for the Chamber or the Cattaraugus Empire Zone, and has been involved in extraordinary service to the organizations at the Clambake.”
